My "Dream Chaser" has arrived home to begin its life of being lovingly cared for. This photo shows the potential that the bike has, but it will require a new paint job and some elbow grease to restore the shine to the forks. I will also need to have the seat reupholstered as this upholstery job was poor and has a stress rip. Then, there will be the search for a couple replacement parts to clean up a couple small things. I have already ordered an engine guard with highway pegs, new decals for the tank and side covers for when it is painted, and a cruiser style windshield. Plus, the ever important Battery Tender to keep the battery in tip top condition. I will also be on the search for the back rest with six pack rack that was made my Hondaline in the 80s. I have located a source for a replica and will use that if my search fails. My new bike is 19 years old and only has 13,000 miles on it. It runs beautifully and recently had the carbuerators gone over. Our first task, with my learning how, is to change out all the fluids. We have a radiator to flush, clutch and brake fluids to change, fork fluid to change, oil to change and we will check the rear end fluid as well.
As You can see the tank has had its damage. It is superficial, but does ruin the beauty. This bike was evidently not stored very carefully. What a shame for such a beautiful and powerful machine.
I plan to lighten the burgundy color so that it looks burgundy even in the shade. The bike currently looks black when it is out of the light. Some of the marks on the tank in this photo are good ol' Arizona dust.
Elbow grease and some studying for the best approach will be required here. The bottoms of the front forks are oxidized and have lost their shine. I am sure there is a way to clean them up and will research until I am comfortable with a particular approach.
Not high on my priority list, but eventually I will be looking for new instruments that have not been scraped.
The Honda V65 Magna (1100 cc) is the first true MUSCLE bike built in the 1980s. It is a street cruiser that has no equal, in my mind, for beauty and speed. Many muscle bike enthusiasts would say that the Yamaha VMax was the ultimate muscle bike and the Magna was number two, but the Magna was the FIRST and it was a stunning looking machine. There is nothing quite like the powerful rumble of this magnificent machine. For me it was love and lust at first sight and that love affair continues to this day. When I thought about getting back into motorcycles I considered what I might want and there was only one answer: the V65 MAGNA. I decided against a new Harley Davidson because they did not produce anything that captured my heart and mind the way the V65 has all these years. So here is my dream machine and project for the upcoming months. Yes, indeed DREAMS DO COME TRUE!!
