Australian Cattle Dogs can be quite the challenge to live with. They are a very active breed and if they don't find it to do, it isn't worth doing. The best saying about a Cattle Dog is that "A Tired Cattle Dog is a Good Cattle Dog" and that is very true. A Cattle Dog will invent their own entertainment if you are not interacting with them. They are very intelligent, personable, intense, and humorous (there is nothing like an ACD grin). They require a strong owner who can command respect and obedience from them, but they are not a dog to bully with harsh physical correction. This dog wants to please his/her master and a tone of the voice or expression on the face can have more positive effect on the behavior of an ACD than any amount of physical input. The breed is intelligent enough to learn whatever you want to train it, but humorous enough to add their own variation to the theme. This characteristic makes them quite challenging in competition events and the handler had better approach the whole event with the same humor. The ability to laugh at what your dog does to embarrass you in public is a necessary thing.
I will try to educate you about the many things Australian Cattle Dog at this site. I am NOT a breeder and all of my dogs are neutered or spayed. All, but two, of my dogs are rescues. In the upcoming pages you will learn about each dog and see many photos of them. Each personality is unique and I would not want it any other way. So enjoy your visit with us and come back often as I will be updating this site on a regular basis. This is a work in progress as I learn how to do this. |
